A 26-year-old man, Wilfred Inacho, was sentenced to six strokes of cane by a Gudu Upper Area Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after he was dragged to the court for fondling a woman's buttocks in public without her consent.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Inacho, a welder, who was charged on a one count-charge of mischief, grabbed the buttocks of the woman without her consent, pleaded guilty to the charge, saying it was not intentional as he only wanted the lady to like him.
The police prosecutor, Augustine Urom, had told the court that one Alice Adejo reported the matter at Apo police station on August 10, 2016. Urom said during investigation, it was realised that Inacho had formed a habit of leaving his work to follow Adejo every time she passed by his workshop.
The presiding judge, Umar Kagarko, while passing the sentence on the convict, admonishing him to desist from such indecency, and advised him to look for a decent approach towards women.
