It is an unprecedented event that started in London, United Kingdom in 2008 after a careful thought by the organizers of the event. The purpose of the heritage award is to acknowledge, recognise and honour Yoruba sons and daughters for their contributions and efforts with regards to growth and development of the society both in Nigeria and diaspora. And also to further strengthen the spirit of UNITY amongst the Yoruba community.

Like every other Award Yoruba Heritage Award is in eight (8) categories which include: Media, Entertainment, Corporate, Education, Achievements,Posthumous, Culture and Hospitality.
